Compare prices across shops

Products group the offers of the same product in different shops, by GTIN or by brand and part number.

An item is one shop's offer. A product groups the items of all shops that sell the same thing, so you can compare their prices.

How items become products

  • Items with the same GTIN (EAN/UPC, the barcode number) are the same product. Pricana keeps only GTINs that mean the same everywhere (with a valid check digit; no shop-internal numbers or vouchers).
  • Items without a GTIN are grouped by brand and manufacturer part number (MPN). When such a group gets a GTIN later, its id becomes that GTIN; the old id keeps answering.

A product's id is its GTIN (digits), else its brand-MPN key (lenovo.21kc004mge).

Find products

Shell
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $PRICANA_KEY" \
  "https://pricana.io/api/v1/products?q=thinkpad&minShops=2&sort=price"

minShops=2 keeps the products sold by at least two websites: the ones you can compare. Each product has its price range per currency, the number of offers and of shops:

One product and its offers

Shell
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $PRICANA_KEY" https://pricana.io/api/v1/products/0196802123456

returns the product with all its offers you can see, cheapest first. Each offer is a full item, with its shop and link.

Good to know

  • Products only contain offers you can see: of your datasets, and of the websites Pricana may pass on.
  • The same shop can list a product twice (two variants, a marketplace seller); shops counts websites, offers items.
  • To follow one product's price over time, read the history of its offers.
