AI agents (MCP)

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own agent to Pricana over MCP and ask about prices in plain language.

Pricana is an MCP server. Connect it to your AI assistant and ask in plain language: the agent searches items, compares a product across shops, reads price histories and recent changes, and answers with the shops, prices and links. It can only read; it never changes anything.

Two addresses

AddressForData
https://pricana.io/mcpyour company: sign in with your Pricana account, or send an API keyyour datasets, on your plan's terms (as the API)
https://pricana.io/mcp/sampleanyone, without an accountthe sample datasets as of 24 hours ago, with a week of history

Connect your assistant

Claude

In Claude (on the web or in the desktop app), add a custom connector under Settings → Connectors with the address https://pricana.io/mcp. Claude opens Pricana's sign-in: sign in with your Pricana account and allow access. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner of your Claude organization may need to add the connector first.

Claude Code

Shell
claude mcp add --transport http pricana https://pricana.io/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in. With an API key instead of a sign-in:

Shell
claude mcp add --transport http pricana https://pricana.io/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $PRICANA_KEY"

ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, add a connector (Settings → Apps & Connectors; custom MCP servers may need developer mode, depending on your ChatGPT plan) with the address https://pricana.io/mcp, then sign in with your Pricana account.

Cursor, VS Code and other clients

Most clients take the address in a JSON configuration. Cursor (~/.cursor/mcp.json):

JSON
{ "mcpServers": { "pricana": { "url": "https://pricana.io/mcp" } } }

VS Code (.vscode/mcp.json):

JSON
{ "servers": { "pricana": { "type": "http", "url": "https://pricana.io/mcp" } } }

The client opens the sign-in when it first connects. For programs that can't sign in, send an API key in the Authorization header (Bearer prc_live_…); a test key (prc_test_…) reads the sample datasets.

Try it without an account

Add https://pricana.io/mcp/sample to your assistant: no sign-in, the sample datasets. Or call it directly:

Shell
curl -X POST https://pricana.io/mcp/sample \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" -H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"list_datasets","arguments":{}}}'

The playground shows the same data in your browser.

Tools

ToolWhat it does
list_datasetsyour datasets: id, name, how many items and shops, when they were last read
get_filtersthe shops, categories (their slugs) and currencies to filter by, with item counts
search_itemsitems by words in the title, category, shop, price range or GTIN; sorted by price or latest change
get_itemone item with everything known about it
price_historyan item's price changes over time, within your plan's history
compare_pricesone product across shops, cheapest first; or products sold by several shops
recent_changesthe latest new listings, price drops and rises, removals (paid plans; not in the sample)

Signing in

When you connect https://pricana.io/mcp, your assistant finds Pricana's sign-in by itself (OAuth). You sign in with your Pricana account and allow access to read your Pricana price data. The assistant then reads with your rights in your company: the datasets your plan includes. Its token is valid for the MCP address only. To take access back, open your account and remove the assistant under Applications.

Limits and billing

Every tool call counts as one call of your plan's monthly quota and is subject to its rate limit, as API calls are; connecting and listing the tools don't count. Every plan includes MCP access (mcp in /api/v1/plan). On Free, agents read the sample datasets as of 24 hours ago; recent changes need a paid plan. When a limit is reached, the tool answers with what happened and where to upgrade, so your assistant can tell you.

Good questions to ask

  • "What does the RTX 4070 Super cost right now, and which shop is cheapest?"
  • "How did the price of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon develop over the last month?"
  • "Which laptops dropped in price today?"
  • "Compare this GTIN across shops: 0196802123456."

For developers

  • Transport: Streamable HTTP, POST only, one JSON answer per request, no sessions. Protocol versions 2026-07-28 (stateless, with server/discover) and 2025-03-26 to 2025-11-25 (with initialize).
  • Authorization: OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. The Protected Resource Metadata is at https://pricana.io/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp; the scope is mcp:tools; tokens must name https://pricana.io/mcp as their audience. Clients register themselves (Dynamic Client Registration).
  • Answers: each tool returns its JSON as structuredContent and as text. Errors the model can act on (a wrong argument, an unknown id, a plan's limit) come back as the tool's error (isError).
  • The same data over HTTP: the API reference.
