How the index is made
Pricana reads the listings of German and Austrian online shops that allow it (robots.txt, the opt-out at /bot) several times a day. The graphics cards among the offers are recognized by their titles; notebooks, complete PCs, workstation cards and accessories are left out.
Per chip, the page shows the median of the current offers, the price a quarter of them are below, and the cheapest offer. Offers far from the median (a wrong match, a bundle) are left out, and a chip is only shown with at least eight offers from three shops, none of them with more than half.
The index compares each chip’s median with its median in the first week shown and averages the changes (geometric mean), so expensive and cheap chips count alike.
Only statistics are shown: no shop by name, no list of offers (the cheapest price stands without its shop). Price comparison sites are not a source.
The offers by API
The PC hardware dataset holds the offers of the shops that allow their resale: price, availability, shop and product codes, with history and a change feed.
